Carnivore Diet Electrolyte Drink

By Arlyne Sanches

My sister, Ellen Weeks, is very into hydration. That is why she created her own recipe for Carnivore Diet Electrolyte Drink. Even before carnivore, whenever anyone had an ache, pain, or mood swing, she has always asked, “Have you had any water today?” Now she drinks her recipe for Carnivore Electrolyte Drink. Now that she and I both eat carnivore, hydration has become even more important.

Eating a low carb diet like keto or carnivore doesn’t allow your body to hold onto water like it does when you are eating carbohydrates. Your body sheds water instead of holding onto it. In order to stay hydrated and feeling well, we think it may be very beneficial to add electrolytes into your diet. We find that this is very important to pay attention to when you are starting out eating carnivore. Being dehydrated on carnivore or keto can make you feel achy, low energy, bad mood, increase cravings, headache, etc. We shared the recipe for Carnivore Electrolyte Drink to make sure people had an easy way to get electrolytes without having to buy expensive powders or drops. Many of which don’t provide even the RDA (recommended dietary allowance).

We also think it is immensely helpful to have as much support as possible when you try a carnivore diet, that is why we wrote our ebook, The 30 Day Carnivore Diet Challenge. The recipe for the Carnivore Electrolyte Drink is in our ebook as well as many more recipes (like Carnivore Diet Pot Roast) and helpful tools and tips.

Carnivore Diet/ Keto Diet Electrolyte Drink

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: NA
Serves: 1

Ingredients
32 oz. (4 cups) spring water
or purified water
1⁄2 teaspoon Morton’s Lite Salt*
1⁄2 teaspoon Real Salt, Himalayan Salt,
or sea Salt*

Optional Ingredients
1⁄2 teaspoon Natural Calm Magnesium
Unflavored Powder (order here)
1-2 drops essential oils: lemon, lime, or
orange (order here)

Instructions
Stir all the ingredients together in a large glass or insulated mug and drink at least one
32 oz. serving of this mixture throughout the day. If you find the mixture too salty, try diluting it with 16 oz more of water or halve the amount of Morton’s Lite Salt and Real Salt to 1/4 tsp each.

Notes
If you are feeling keto flu like symptoms, such as fatigue and lightheadedness, it is crucial
to make sure you are drinking enough water, getting adequate electrolytes, and eating
appropriate amounts of protein/fat. For example, Ellen finds that she needs at least 2-3
servings of this drink throughout the day. Morton’s Lite Salt is high in potassium because
it is a salt substitute, which means that it is important to also add more sea salt in order
to get the right balance of sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Adding magnesium to
the drink helps regulate over 300 crucial bodily processes. Keeping up with electrolyte
supplementation also may help to avoid feeling constipated during your first few weeks
of this program. Also certain times of the year such as a hot summer may require more
electrolyte intake than other times of the year. Be aware of electrolyte balance if you
are doing heavy exercise, this is a main reason people feel a lack of performance while
on a very low carb or zero carb diet.
